About The Books

SAVING NEW YORK

A thriller loaded with mystery and suspense!

Who is this man called Chance?
And why is the Mayor of New York
willing to pay him almost anything?

Edward Wertz, Mayor of New York City, has a deadly problem on his hands. A serial killer - an expert sniper - is assassinating police on the streets. One a week…two a week…three a week. There seems to be no end in sight.

The NYPD can't even get close to this obsessed maniac. Is he one of them? The FBI can't find him. Or her. Are they the next target?

Fear and desperation grip the city. Families of policemen urge them to stay home - let someone else die today. Rioting and looting run rampant and unstopped. The National Guard is all but powerless to control the chaos.

A local TV reporter has a wild idea — and a phone call is made to a man most people have never heard of. A man who can track anything that breathes…who can see what others can't see…who can process information as fast as a computer. A man forged as tough as steel in the steaming cauldron of the Everglades…with the strength to fight the strongest enemy. His name is Chance. His fee: ten million. His deadline: one week.

The TV reporter is Nicole Jensen. Smart, tenacious and beautiful. She saw the elusive Chance years ago, but briefly. This time, she's hell-bent on putting herself in the middle of the action, even with life-threatening danger all around her. Never mind! She wants the scoop and a big anchor desk in the worst way. She also wants Chance. Will she get between Chance and a bullet? Or will Chance get between a bullet and Nicole Jensen?

From the crime-ridden tenements to luxurious, historic Gracie Mansion… from the rat-infested sewer system to the majestic Statue of Liberty… Chance is on the hunt. And being hunted.

SAVING kenya

A thriller that explodes with mystery and suspense!

Who is this man called Chance? And why is the President of Kenya desperate for his help?

Newly-elected President of Kenya, Victor Mutuma, is at the pinnacle of his life. It wasn't easy getting to the top. Now it’s up to Mutuma to take his country to the next level. To take his hard-won success and create a legacy of achievement that would last a century.

But something is in his way. The explosive increase in the poaching of Kenya's treasure trove of wildlife. The animals millions of tourists come to Kenya to see. A single rhinoceros horn can bring $340,000 on the black market. A leopard pelt, $35,000. A Cape buffalo head, $30,000. Ounce-for-ounce, poached parts sell for more than cocaine or heroin. It's a nineteen billion dollar-a year-business of ruthless international crime syndicates equipped with night vision scopes, high-tech weapons, drones, helicopters and armies of savage killers. They're not just slaughtering endangered species and tens of thousands of animals, they're murdering hundreds of Rangers trying to protect the animals. They're killing the tourism industry of Kenya. And they’ll kill anyone who tries to stop them.

Mutuma declares war on the poachers.

The syndicate declares war on him.

They’ll stop at nothing. Not assassination. Not the kidnapping of his son. And not the man Mutuma brings in to fight them.

A man called Chance.

Chance revels in the nature of Kenya. It reminds him of his beloved Everglades. Bucolic in a way. But the upheaval is about to start.

Chance has never seen a woman like Nefertari Mahmoud, obvious mistress of President Mutuma. And she has never seen a man like Chance.

Chance has his hands full in more ways than one.

From the squalid poacher tent camps in the African bush to a sex-nest penthouse in Dubai…from a billionaires luxury yacht moored in the Persian Gulf to the filthy smuggler ships steaming to China and Asia…Chance is climbing on top of dead bodies, both human and animal.

To save a boy. To save a country. To save a continent.

Will he have to sacrifice his own life to do it?

About The Author

“If you’re gonna write a thriller,
it helps to live a thrilling life.”

I don’t know if I would call being attacked by a full-size, adult, male baboon exactly thrilling. It seems that some other descriptor would be more appropriate. Perhaps a string of four-letter words ending in a sentence with three exclamation points!

I was in Kenya when it happened. I had taken my family on a safari to the Massai Mara. My daughter, 14 at the time, and I had become separated from our group when, from out of nowhere, the biggest baboon I had ever seen - about four-feet tall with huge orange eyes and barred teeth as big as bowling alley pins - leaped in front of us. I immediately recalled that a baboon’s teeth are longer than a lion’s. And their fierceness rivals even the blood-thirsty hyena. My daughter, understandably, shrank behind me. I struggled to force my eyes away to avoid making eye contact with the beast as my hands slowly moved in front of me to shield the most vulnerable parts of my body.

Fortunately, even after all the adventures and close calls I’ve had over the years, I can say that all my parts are still intact. Remarkable considering the fact that I have had black panthers piss on my feet, been charged by a bull elephant, shared a room with a large mountain lion, swam with circling sharks, chased alligators, collected hundreds of snakes, flew my own plane across the country a half-dozen times, eaten barracuda in a

thatched hut in the jungles of Colombia, paddled a dugout canoe to a native stilt village in Venezuela, scuba dived to 110 feet to enter a sunken ship, ridden a camel in Egypt, photographed Princess Diana in London, played guitar in a backup band for famous rock & roll singers, collected and rebuilt antique British sports cars, and traveled the world making TV commercials as an award-winning advertising writer and creative director for some of the biggest New York agencies.

Now, I’m fortunate to combine the thrills of a lifetime with the thrills of imagination. I feel blessed to have ‘met’ the stars of my stories - Chance, Nikki, Cha-ley and Addie Mae…even the villains, the murderers and the terrorists…all the people we love to love and the people we love to hate. They all have a role in thrilling my readers on the pages of my novels.

When I stop to think about it, even with all the thrills I’ve had in my life, bringing these characters and stories to life is my greatest thrill of all.

About The Team

Chance

First of all, Chance isn’t even his real name. It’s a name he gave himself after going through a ‘metamorphosis’ that changed him forever. A kind of ‘Phoenix rising from the ashes’, if you will. And he’s not your average thriller novel hero who shoots dozens of people and blows up everything in sight. Nor is he your typical government assassin who’s called in from retirement. Chance is a reluctant hero who most people have never heard of. And he likes it that way. As humble as he is, he’s an amazing one-of-a-kind man who can track anything that breathes, can see what others can’t see, and can process information like a computer. Surviving a plane crash, he was forged as tough as steel in the steaming cauldron of the Everglades. He has the strength to fight the strongest of men. And he possess some unique abilities that no man on Earth has. It’s all explained in Saving an Innocent Man, actually the very first book I wrote in the Saving Series of novel thrillers.

Nikki

Nicole Jensen. Don’t you dare call her a reporter. She’s a journalist. And a damn good one. Smart enough to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the top journalism college in the country. Independent. Determined. Tough enough to get herself out of ‘life-ending’ situations. And beautiful enough to sweep a man like Chance completely off his feet. She’s a rancher’s daughter from Wyoming, raised to love her God, her family and her country. Now she’s bravely taking on the challenges of the ‘Big Apple’ on her way to an anchor desk at the New York City TV station that recognized her potential. And her potential seems unlimited riding in the slipstream of Chance.

Cha-ley

Chance’s right-hand-man. A Yorkshire terrier size and personality with the protectiveness of a Doberman. Loyal to his own death. When Cha-ley, proper name Charles Devon Hastings, is not acting as first-mate on Chance’s 42-foot yacht or taking care of Chance’s 10-acre estate in the Everglades, he’s helping Chance every step of the way by gathering evidence, standing up to killers, and digging up dead bodies. But even staring death in the face, Cha-ley can’t suppress his New Zealend ‘Kiwi’ sense of humor with a witty joke and a sunny smile that can brighten the darkest nightmare.

Addie Mae Cypress

A roly-poly Seminole Indian woman with the grace of a cat and the softest, warmest eyes on planet Earth. She loves the traditions and folklore of her ancestry and it shows, from the fragrant flower in her arrow-straight black hair to the beaded native moccasins her grandmother made just for her. She’s always been there for Chance. Years ago, she helped save his life — with food! And she still does. She’s now the ‘chief cook and bottle washer’ at Chance’s home in the Glades. But when she’s not stirring the pot at home, she’s traveling the world, along with Chance and Cha-ley, going undercover and using her captivating charm to help Chance save people, cities… even countries.
